Ruma Abedona Hospice Charitable Trust Newsletter - December 2008 |
11th October was the ‘World Hospice and Palliative Care Day’ and we are happy to let you know that we also took part in celebrating the World Day along with other different 74 countries across the world. The Chief Guest was Mr. Pratim Chattopadhyay , Honourable Minister of West Bengal. Mr. Dilip Sarkar, Rishra Municipality Chairman was the Special guest. All television and news media came out on that day to cover our work. It was very good exposure of our work through the media. The Seminar started with a short speech from the Chief Guest. Dr. Shankar Das, Dr. Sudhamoy Sen and Dr. Arup Bandopadhyay were also present. This year the theme to celebrate World Hospice and Palliative Care Day was ‘Hospice and Palliative Care – a human right’. For us in this part of world it is so important, as many of us didn’t even know the word Palliative Care or the word Hospice. Most people think that a hospice is a spelling mistake and the actual word is hospital. Hence it was very important for us to create a public awareness about palliative care and its benefit to terminally ill people. To let people know that it is the right of a terminally ill patient to have respect and dignity even in their last days. |
We moved on to our next event of Blood Donation Camp. This is a holy step towards saving life of many patients who does not able to purchase blood to save their loved ones. This blood donation camp has been made a success by active participation of well wishers and volunteers of RAH who clearly gratifies such a noble effort. Such efforts signified selfless service to humanity and would further motivate the common people to become regular donors for the noble cause. Doctors assured that it was a myth that weakness was caused after a blood donation. They insisted the donors to donate blood every three months. A large number of people belonging to various walks of life from Rishra locality were very much excited and actively participated in the blood donation camp. As a result of combined effort, a total of 40 units of blood were donated. |
We have made a point to help the poor and the needy people as much as we could. 80 pieces of Blankets were distributed among the people below poverty line. |
Since One and a Half years we have been distributing basic food (Rice, Dal, Cooking oil and Salt) to a large number of terminally ill families regularly on weekly basis. We regularly visit interior villages of Hooghly district locale and help the under privileged people for their general health-check-up, basic foods and clothes. Our Team including Doctors, Volunteers and Nurses visits patients every alternate day of the week by rotation. We are committed to the enhancement of quality of life of the patients during challenging times and their family members. 70 percent of patients were provided medicines as per our financial strength. Not only medications but also holistic care is provided to the family members and friends of the patient, as they need a strong mental support during this period. |
Earlier we were focused to the Cancer patients only, but recently we have started to lend our services to Aids Patients also. |
The building work for the first floor is at its last stage and we are thinking that it will be completed by the middle of January 2009. |
RAH would like to give thanks to all of you for your continuous support and valuable prayer towards our ministry in India. It may be easy to support or pray for any particular reason for a selected time but we do appreciate your continuous support and prayer for month after months over the past few years. |
May God bless you. |
RAH wishes you special greetings for Christmas. |
